About this place
The Saint-Omer train station opened on September 1, 1848; it is located on the Lille–Les Fontinettes and Saint-Omer–Hesdigneul lines. The current passenger terminal was inaugurated in 1902 to replace the previous one, which was dilapidated and lacked space; 82 years later, on December 28, 1984, it was designated a Historic Monument.
Designed by architects Ligny, Vainet, and Aumont, it covers 2,020 m², spread across three buildings. Having suffered bombing during World War II, the station sustained some damage, but its reconstruction restored most of its original architecture. In 2007, the clock installed atop the station was destroyed by a storm.
Today, the station is closed, but you can still admire the exterior of one of the most beautiful SNCF passenger stations in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region.
